How do you calculate playback time?
Divide the original duration by the playback speed. A 60-minute lecture at 1.5× takes 40 minutes; at 2× it takes 30 minutes. For a target-time calculation, divide the original duration by the time available to find the required speed.

The calculation assumes one constant speed and uninterrupted playback. Advertisements, pauses, buffering, note-taking, skipped sections and platform speed limits can change the real finish time. A calculator also does not change the speed of a video; choose a supported speed in your player.

What is a playback speed calculator?
It converts the original length of video or audio into the time needed at another playback rate. It can also show the time saved and the speed required for a target duration.
How do I calculate playback speed from duration?
Divide the original duration by the adjusted viewing time. If a 90-minute lecture must fit into 60 minutes, 90 ÷ 60 gives a required speed of 1.5×.
How long is a 1-hour video at 1.5× speed?
It takes 40 minutes. Divide 60 minutes by 1.5 to get 40 minutes, saving 20 minutes compared with normal speed.
How long is 40 minutes at 1.25× speed?
It takes 32 minutes because 40 ÷ 1.25 = 32. The faster playback saves 8 minutes.
Does 2× playback speed cut the time in half?
Yes, when the whole item plays continuously at 2×. A 2-hour video becomes 1 hour, excluding ads, pauses, buffering or breaks.
Can I use this as a YouTube playback speed calculator?
