Find the compacted project volume, add an allowance for waste and uneven ground, then multiply by the stone's loose bulk density. For a rectangle, volume is length × width × depth. The calculator converts the result to cubic yards, cubic metres, short tons and metric tonnes so you can compare it with the supplier's sales unit.
Keep finished dimensions, delivery units and the supplier's material specification separate. That prevents the most common quantity errors.

Bulk density is not the solid rock density. It includes voids between particles and changes with gradation, moisture and compaction. Use this estimate for planning, then confirm the named product, coverage, order unit, payload limit and delivered quantity with the quarry or landscape supplier.

Enter the finished length, width and depth, select #57 / 2B crushed stone as a practical planning preset, and add the allowance recommended by your supplier or installer. The name used for 3/4-inch aggregate varies by region, so confirm the delivered product before ordering.
Coverage depends on depth and bulk density. At the same density, one ton covers about twice as much area at 2 inches deep as it does at 4 inches deep. Use Known area or Rectangle mode and adjust the dimensions until the result is close to one ton.
There is no single exact conversion because loose bulk density varies by rock type, gradation, void space, moisture and compaction. A common planning range is roughly 1.2–1.5 short tons per cubic yard, but the supplier's product density and scale ticket should control the order.
Required depth depends on soil, drainage, vehicle loads, climate, aggregate gradation and local construction practice. The preset sizes are examples only. Use the depth specified by the project designer, contractor or local guidance.
Usually yes. Uneven subgrade, spillage and compaction mean the delivered volume may need to exceed the simple geometric volume. Ten percent is a useful starting estimate, but difficult grades, thick lifts or supplier guidance may justify a different allowance.
