Begin with black in a dim room, then compare near-black and dark gray. White, red, green and blue can also reveal colour or pixel irregularities.

Clean the display, dim the room and show a full-screen black image. Look around the edges and corners for pale patches that remain in the same place. Test first at your normal brightness, then repeat at a higher setting. Compare what you see from a straight viewing angle; a photo can exaggerate the effect.

In a dim room, clean the display, open the black test in full screen and inspect the edges from your normal straight-on position. Repeat at normal and higher brightness, then check an ordinary dark scene.
It often appears as a pale or yellowish patch near an edge or corner on a dark screen. It tends to remain in the same physical area.
IPS glow usually changes as you move your head, alter distance or change room lighting. Backlight bleed is more fixed near an edge or corner. The two can appear together.
Small uneven areas can be visible on some backlit LCD panels, especially in a dark room. Judge whether the patch is distracting during normal use and compare it with the seller's stated policy.
A web test cannot fix hardware. Avoid pressing or opening the panel. If the effect is distracting, use the return or warranty process and let an authorised technician assess it.
It may stay similar, but pressure, panel movement or another fault can change what you see. Save a consistent test note or photo and compare later if you are concerned.
OLED pixels emit their own light and do not use a conventional LCD backlight, so classic backlight bleed does not apply. OLED screens can have other uniformity, banding, retention or pixel issues.
Camera exposure, night mode, angle and automatic processing can brighten dark areas. Use your eyes during normal viewing as the main check and keep camera settings consistent if documenting a change.
