DIRECT ANSWER

What is the VTU SGPA formula?

VTU SGPA is the total of each course credit multiplied by its grade point, divided by the total semester credits. CGPA uses the same weighting across semesters. It is not a simple average when credit totals differ.

SGPA = Σ (course credit × grade point) ÷ Σ course credits2021/2022/2025: CGPA × 10 · 2018: (CGPA − 0.75) × 10

ACCURACY BOUNDARY

The scheme on your grade card controls the result.

Course credits differ by branch, semester, elective and regulation. Enter the values from your official Scheme of Teaching or grade card. Special grades, failed courses and later attempts may require the treatment specified in the regulation that applies to your admission year.

FOUR STEPS

Calculate VTU SGPA with the right scheme

  1. 01

    Select the VTU scheme

Use the year printed on your grade card; do not infer it only from the current calendar year.

  2. 02

    Enter marks or grades

For marks, use the total course score out of 100. For published results, choose Grades or Points.

  3. 03

    Add official credits

Copy the credit for every theory, lab, project or elective included in your semester calculation.

  4. 04

    Check the official card

Use the estimate for planning and verify final SGPA, CGPA and class against VTU-issued records.

COMMON QUESTIONS

VTU SGPA calculator questions

Answers about the VTU SGPA formula, 2022 and 2018 schemes, CGPA, credits, marks and percentage conversion.

How do I calculate SGPA in VTU?

Multiply each course credit by its grade point, add all credit points, and divide by the semester's total course credits. The calculator rounds the displayed result to two decimals.

Which VTU scheme should I choose?

Choose the scheme printed on your grade card. The 2021, 2022 and 2025 schemes use O, A+, A, B+, B, C, P and F. The 2018 scheme uses S, A, B, C, D, E and F with different bands.

What is the VTU 2022 scheme SGPA formula?

For the 2022 scheme, SGPA = Σ(course credits × grade points) ÷ Σ(course credits). The formula is credit-weighted, not a simple average of course grades.

Can I calculate VTU SGPA from marks?

Yes. Select the correct scheme, choose Marks, enter total marks out of 100 and the official course credits. The calculator maps each mark to its scheme's grade point before weighting it.

How is CGPA calculated in VTU?

Enter each semester's SGPA and total credits. CGPA is the sum of semester SGPA × semester credits divided by the total credits across those semesters.

How do I convert VTU CGPA to percentage?

For the 2021, 2022 and 2025 rules, the published conversion is CGPA × 10. For the 2018 scheme, the published formula is (CGPA − 0.75) × 10.

What marks are needed for a 9 grade point in VTU?

Under the 2021, 2022 and 2025 bands, 80–89 marks give A+ and 9 grade points. In the 2018 scheme, the same range is letter grade A with 9 points.

What marks can produce a 9 SGPA in VTU?

There is no single marks total because SGPA is credit-weighted. A 9.00 SGPA means the weighted average of course grade points is 9; different combinations of 8, 9 and 10 point grades can produce it.

Should failed courses be included?

An F has zero grade points and is included in the semester SGPA calculation shown on the grade card. CGPA treatment after clearing a failed course can vary by the applicable regulation and record, so copy the credits and grades from your official card.

Does this calculator know my branch subjects and credits?

It does not guess them. Enter the credits printed in your scheme or grade card, which makes the calculator usable for any VTU branch, elective and semester without relying on an incomplete subject database.
